Flowstone Guide to make synths and effects

Post by SampleScience »

I know there's a couple of video tutorials on YouTube but aside from that I wish there was some kind of manual or guide on how to build synth and effects in Flowstone. A guide with examples and step by step process. As it is, the 548 pages component guide doesn't seem to talk about synthesis and audio processing but instead of programming in general.

So far, most of the information I've found on the subject is scattered over the internet. Unfortunately, it seems the old synthmaker forum was a goldmine but it's not online anymore! :x

Is there a backup somewhere of all the uploaded examples that were upload in the old forums?

There is some stuff at http://flowstone.guru, have a look. Apart from that, Spogg did a terrific job in selecting and posting the treasures from the old SM forum here.

Hi SAMPLESCIENCE,

Start simple at first. Do a lot of searches around the forum. Look for things like wave shapers, frequency multipliers and dividers, simple delays, simple filters, and oscillators. Really study them to see how they are put to together and how they work. Then start modifying them. For example put a sine wave fron an oscillator through a wave shaper to see what it does, or a square wave through a filter. Use a scope module to look at the waveforms and a audio output to hear what they sound like.
After a while you should be able to start building bigger stuff. Again the search, is your friend. Now maybe look at a completed synthisizer. What modules make up its inside and how does it work. I do not know your background, but get some books on synthesizers, building effects, and maybe even just some electronics books. If you want to code that's another whole ball game. Maybe tulamide or Martin (and others) could advise you there.

We'll that's it, good luck and hope to see some cool stuff from you in the future.

Later then, BobF.....

Thanks for the replies! I wasn't aware about the Flowstone Guru having tutorials and general information about FS, I thought of it more as a fsm files repository.

I'm currently looking for information about anti-aliasing and high interpolation oscillators techniques or pre-made modules. Let me know if you find any info about this in FS. I have a couple of ideas in mind, but they would be too computer intensive to be viable.
